Papaver somniferum Seeds

 Papaver somniferum is a fantastic Breadseed poppy for any garden. Poppy seeds are not simply portrayed as being required to grow more poppy flowers, but they are also widely used within baking and cooking as well as other applications. It is believed that the poppy seed was  first used for its medicinal properties. Poppies are associated with sleep and some varieties contain a level of opiates which helps to induce sleep. Because of this, the poppy flower was deemed a sacred plant to Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep. The poppy flower was widely used to treat insomnia in individuals. As a medicine, poppy seeds were first introduced to the ancient Greeks by Hippocrates.
